System Overview:
CZone and Mastervolt Bridged 120v AC Sprinter Van

We created this system to show what a fully communicative CZone and Mastervolt system would look like on a custom sprinter van.

Specifications:

10.8KW Hours of Lithium house batteries (90% depth of discharge)

12KW Hours @ 100% depth of discharge (not recommended)

3500W AC power from the Inverter/Charger

Up to 100A of House battery Charging from the inverter/charger

Up to 60A of House battery charging from the Solar charger

Up to 50A of House battery charging from the DC/DC charger

 Alternative alternator house charging available

Capable of 0-100% house charging in less than 5 hours without alternators

How it works:

This configuration is very similar power wise to the single engine inboard design, but with added CZone bridging and solar charging, and without the alternator upgrade.

CZone uses the NMEA 2000 network to communicate and control AC Output Interfaces and combination output interfaces, allowing full input and output monitoring through the Czone touch interfaces on board. Our company is one of few that excels in programming CZone to any customer needs, adding customizable switches and modes, creating home pages with your favorite switches, modes, and configuring real time monitoring. For emergencies, the AC output interface lets you force off individual AC loads, and there is a 50A master AC breaker to turn off everything at once and for current protection. The combination output interface lets you pull fuses to turn off loads, or even force on power for important loads like lights or pumps if the network fails.

Something special you might notice is the Mastervolt Czone Bridge, which connects the Masterbus network to NMEA 2000, allowing all Mastervolt battery, charger, and inverter metrics and states to be monitored and controlled in Czone, as well as all digital load switching and modes, in the same monitor. They are still both systems on separate networks, allowing upgrades and swapping to be possible while maintaining important functionalities. The NMEA 2000 network is shown to be set up with one 4 way T connector and four drop cables for simplicity in the model, but in reality there would likely be longer backbone cables connecting 2

or 3 different tees to:

1. support multiple or further away CZone touch screens, as backbone cables can be longer than drop cables

2. external power to the network,

3. ability for more NMEA access and diagnosis of separate parts

4. backbone cables are more robust and a thicker gauge than drop cables

Although the battery needs in this boat are the same as the single engine inboard, alternators in automobiles can not create as much amperage as marine alternators like the Electromaax GenMaxx. This system compensates by using a SCM60 MPPT-MB Rectifier, a lithium capable solar rectifier to give you supplemental house charging of up to 60A under perfect sun and with the correct PV panels. The solar rectifier also uses 3 step charging, being able to charge the battery in a low voltage trickle charging/float mode when full to sustain battery life.

The MAC+ DC/DC charger is a charger programmable through Mastervolt that allows different chemistries and DC power sources to charge each other. In this system, it monitors the start battery state of charge and checks the engine status to decide when it will harness the start battery power to assist charging the House batteries. The Alpha 3 pro is a regulator that is programmable to charge every battery type, including lithium and agms, and is capable of temperature controlled 3 step charging, to make sure your batteries are never overcharging or overheating. It is easy to install and lets you take full advantage of the alternator already in your van.

Using the MAC+’s and Alpha 3 pro’s versatility, and depending on the customer’s preferences, we can have the house batteries set up to assist in charging start batteries, or have the start batteries help charge house batteries, or even both in the same system. It’s quite amazing the amount of options you have for supplemental charging of batteries, by just adding the MAC+ and Alpha Pro 3 regulator.
